Support our charity

Abbie's Army’ is a charity that has been formed after the loss of just one of the 40 precious children in the UK who are affected by DIPG every year. Abbie was just six years old when she passed away five months after her diagnosis in September 2011

What is it like to hear your child has DIPG?... and then hear there is NO HOPE. This is something that Ray and Amanda, managing director and company secretary of BTL-UK LTD endured, when their daughter Abbie was diagnosed with this fatal tumour. So in her memory ‘Abbie’s Army’ are now totally committed to raising funds and awareness for research into this horrific brain cancer. No family should have to hear that there is no cure and yet every nine DAYS a UK family receives this diagnosis for their child. Brain cancer research is an area severely underfunded and overlooked for far too long.

This FATAL brain cancer is DIPG or ‘Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma’ and this cancer affects CHILDREN!

Hope for the futurepicture of Abbie Mifsud

There can be no stronger voice than that of parents who have lost children to this disease, and there is a huge drive from affected families around the world who all know how helpless the situation currently is. Presently ALL research into DIPG is funded by charities, and usually led by parents who have lost a child.

During 2013 we were fortunate with the help and generosity of our supporters to sponsor a dedicated PhD researcher at the Institute of Cancer Research, working on DIPG. Here they are unravelling the genetic landscape of this prolific cancer killer of children. We also joined the International ‘DIPG Collaborative’ a group of global foundations unified in the mission of finding DIPG cure

Together through collaboration with these leading researchers and or institutions closest to making a breakthrough into the treatment of DIPG we aim to offer families some realistic hope in the future of managing or curing this awful cancer.
